3 C’s – It’s Friday!

Cares:
Will I be able to improve my manuscript? I’m working on the suggested changes, but right now, it feels a little like trying to get my 17-month old to tell me why he’s crying. The manuscript is leaking tears, and I’m trying to figure out what hurts.

Concerns:
Brogan has a mysterious fever. I’m staying home with him this morning, then my dad is coming to pick him up at noon so I can go to work. As a teacher, missing work ends up being more work than if I’d just gone.

Celebrations:
I’m celebrating you! I’ve felt so supported and encouraged this week as I’ve read through the wonderful comments on Monday’s post. Each and every one blessed my heart.

I just started reading the Harry Potter books to my students. They are captivated. As a teacher, I can’t help but love this series. It’s helped millions of kids around the world fall in love with reading. There’s something so mesmerizing about the story. A neglected boy discovers he’s someone special. The world he knows isn’t as it seems. And he spends seven books fighting evil. As a Christian, I can’t help but make the analogy. Christ finds us and tells us we’re special – that we’re made in His image. We discover the world isn’t just physical, but spiritual. And an epic battle between good and evil rages every day, in every village, classroom, neighborhood, city street. As a Christ-follower, I know who wins the battle. As a Harry Potter fan, I know who wins the battle there too.

Question to Ponder: What are your cares, concerns, and celebrations today?removetweetmeme

I have had the priviledge of having children who were the perfect age for Harry Potter as the books were released. The first book, I read to them, and then it progressed to them reading them on thier own until they were ahead of me, and I had to catch up. I highly recommend them and I like how you paralleled the teaching of Jesus-we're all special.
Celebration: I taught my first goal getting workshop and had a ton of fun and pretty good feedback!
Concern: A friend who is still recovering from a concussion
Cares: Homework, and Groceries..I'm always behind in the latter because of the former!

Poor Brogan! I hope he feels better soon!

I know you will find the leakage problem in your MS and will get your story in top shape!

I am celebrating the fact that the principal at our school is hiring a receptionist to ease the load in our office. He using extra money for the rest of the year, so we probably won't get one next year, but we sure do need one! πŸ™‚ Maybe the stress will lift and I will be free to write with joy. πŸ™‚

I'm sorry Brogan isn't feeling well. Hope your little guy is himself again soon.

I'm sorry, too, that you're struggling with your manuscript. May the perfect solution come to you soon and the joy of writing return full force.

I had a great week, so I'm celebrating. Nothing special happened, but I met my goals and even worked out every day! The little stuff gets me excited. Have a great weekend, and I hope Brogan feels better!

As everyone else, sending prayers towards your little guy- both of mine are sick as well!

First, your blog is really great! So glad I found it when I visited Keli Gwinn's site. Thanks for writing about Harry Potter. I've been struggling with whether my 3rd grade son should read it and take the leap! I am always interested in new books for him to read, so would love your input as a teacher. I do believe that children can learn many spiritual lessons about reading about the struggles of good and evil.

Praying for Brogan- poor baby! I love that my three year old can communicate her hurts, it helps a ton.

I'm alittle behind at work today myself, that's why I'm late in making the rounds.

I'm hoping to get back to my manuscript this weekend.

    Cares: REVISIONS

    Have a great weekend.

  10. Holly

Booo…fevers stink! Hugs to Brogan from Auntie Holly πŸ™‚

Cares: Waiting to hear back about an offer we put in on our dream house (actually, dream neighborhood…house needs quite a bit of work). Our offer was way below what they're asking, but we just had to try. Gulp.

Concerns: Wondering if I'll ever feel like packing. I wish I were rich and could hire someone πŸ™‚

Celebrations: We passed our house inspection with no new contingencies!

Good luck with your editing…I'm so pumped for you!

    Love, H

So sorry your little man is ill. Poor guy. Hope he's better soon.

I love Harry Potter books. When my oldest son was in third grade, his teacher started the first book, but a parent complained and the book mysteriously disappeared. When my younger son struggled with reading, Harry Potter was the first big book he finished reading by himself!

    My C's:

Cares–Brainstorming a fresh plot for my next book
    Concerns–Job-related stress
Celebrations–Still basking in the glow of acquiring an agent and so very thankful for my friends who continue to encourage me on a daily basis.

I'll be praying for your baby! I love to pray for people so it's an honor. =)

Cares: I'm getting weary with my agent quest. I need to satisfy this itch and soon. I'm praying God's timing and patience to go with it.

Concerns: I did a major *blonde* goof this week. I'm drowning in embarrassment over. My excerpt up on Amazon was pulled from an older file so it has a couple spelling errors. Luckily the 'full' the judges have is 'clean', but still MAJOR goof.

Celebration: I survived until spring break!!!! Next week I am free to clean the house. oh yay. πŸ˜‰

    Have a great weekend!!!!!!

Aw! Poor Brogan! There's a bunch of gunk going around here in our house too. We just finished one bug and now have another. With five kids it can seem endless! Hope your sweet baby feels better soon.

I also haven't read Harry Potter. Maybe I'll take on the whole series this summer. Cares – I'm still plotting my next project. I think it may take longer to do the plotting than to actually write the book. Concerns – My 6th grade girls at church. They're being faced with all kinds of challenges right now. Celebrations – I'm waiting for a book contract to come in the mail!!!

  18. Alison Eckel

I'm with you on Harry Potter. I was more excited than my kids when each of the books came out.

  19. Katie Ganshert

Wendy – hey girl! I've been thinking about you a lot! As far as Harry Potter and age….there are lots of different opinions on this. I mean, I've heard of people reading these stories to their kindergarteners. However, if you really want your daughter to understand the story and all the fun nuances JK Rowling puts into them, I'd wait a little longer. I think 5th grade is the perfect age to start reading them. The kids are old enough to know that they are, indeed, fiction. Let me know whatcha decide. πŸ™‚

  20. Jen

You are too sweet!!! Good Luck with your manuscript hopefully soon you can find what's hurting!!

Cares – my hubby! I miss not seeing him!
Concerns – the hubby working overnights πŸ™
Celebrations – My birthday is Monday so I'm taking a three day weekend with my hubby! Pedicure and dinner with the girls tonight, shopping Saturday, dinner with the fam Sunday, lounging on Monday!! Woo-hoo!

  21. Jennifer Shirk

I think I'm the last person on earth who has not read Harry Potter. πŸ™‚ But I would like to.

And I'm sorry to hear about your little one. Hope he feels better soon!

My concern is to meet my writing goal today and my celebration is my new bedroom curtains get installed today!

  22. Krista Phillips

    Poor guy!!! *hugs* to him!

Cares: Writing slump… need to get back into the groove!
Concerns: A ton of very heavy family issues going on right now that are breaking my heart. *sigh*
Celebrations: God is good… ALL the time!

  23. Wendy @ All in a Day's Thought

    Hi Katie,
Do you think Harry Potter would be something to begin reading to/with my second grader? I'm going to read your Mon. post to fill myself in more.

Cares: Getting back to writing/editing when I'm ready.
Concerns: My mom working through her grief.
Celebrations: My dad's funeral really was a celebration. We played Life is a Highway at the end of the memorial service and got a whole Presbyterian church to dance! Dance, I tell you.

Thanks for all your love and support,
    Wendy

I hope the rain predicted for Mon. blows out to sea well south of us. Either that or the temps drop below freezing and rain turns to snow. I'm tired of mopping the basement. At least it's the weekend and I bought Hershey kisses!
