A Vlogging Adventure

I’m always looking for fresh ways to connect with you guys. So guess what? I’m starting a new adventure.

Do you like how I’m rocking the book case in the background?

If you want to send me questions, I’d love to hear from you. I promise to answer them, whether that be via email or a vlog. You can send them to keganshert(at)gmail(dot)com. Or you can ask them on my Facebook Author Page.

On a different note, my debut novel has an official title! And it’s not Beneath a Velvet Sky. I’ll share next week, so stay tuned!

Let’s Talk: How do you feel about vlogging? I have to say, I was a skeptic at first. But then my agent started doing it, and I loved hearing her voice and seeing her face (in a non-stalkerish way, I promise you).

Wow. You're very brave. I hate watching myself on camera, and I think I sound like a five year-old, so I don't think I will ever be venturing into this ocean. But you're doing a great job!!

I'm just now seeing this and wow! you did great! Very relaxed and "yourself" which is what makes these things work. I feel like I've met you in real life now. =)

I am late on this one too, but I like the idea of vlog's as a change of pace. I would not want it to replace all of the wonderful written blogs though.

Great Vlog! So great to see someone embracing it and promoting it to the masses. So many people are beginning to see why it's such a great thing to do and your Vlog is certainly going to add to the buzz of vlogging. It's strange that written bloger feel vlogging isn't within their reach when it's actually the most engaging way to reach your audience. If you're thinking vlogging isn't quite your thing check out the power of video here – http://bit.ly/nAR4cA. Then you can join Katie in being a fantastic popular blogger!

i tried to leave a comment on this earlier, but was having internet problems! it was so great to see your smiling face! i DID feel like you were sitting in my living room….must have been the book shelf. i'd keep that. πŸ™‚

you've inspired me to perhaps give this a try!

love you and can't WAIT to see you next month!

What fun, Katie! You're bookmarked and followed now, so I'll be checking back to see your next vlog installment.

Awesome job! I attempted a vlog a few weeks ago, but chickened out. Would have loved to seen the blooper reel!

Hi Katie. What a great job! Congratulations on your first vlog and the upcoming release of your first book. I do have a question. This may sound weird, but where are you in your head right now? Concentrating on this book release, beginning something new??? Just wondering if this feels like a transitional period for you or something else. Hope that wasn't too off the wall. Thanks. Will be looking forward to your next vlog. πŸ™‚

    Hi, Katie!
I love the Vlog. I like feeling like I just got to really meet you. It is also weird to me to hear people I "know" online and to be reminded not everyone has a southern accent :).

You did a wonderful job! And looked beautiful. πŸ™‚ I don't care for vlogs in general, only because they tend to be somewhat long and I can't move at my own pace with them. But it's a great way to get a fuller idea of who a blogger is, how they sound, etc. πŸ˜‰

  15. Donna

WOW! Excellent idea and great debut vlog. I completely agree with embracing new, fresh ways of interacting. You're a natural! I may have to give this a whirl soon… Blessings!

    Awesome job, Katie!

The first vlog I ever saw was a scrap-booking lesson. The teacher's kids kept playing chase through the room. Her cat would wander across the lens and block the view every now and then.

She set the bar pretty low. You, however, didn't. Not sure I would be as apt to try it!

  17. Katie Ganshert

Kristen and Sherrinda – it was the lighting, I promise you! πŸ˜‰

LOVE these questions, peeps! They are all so good. I don't know where to start!

And Sarah – I think I would hyperventilate. It's so much easier talking at a camera than an audience of real-live adults (I can handle kids).

  18. Sherrinda

You are soooo pretty!!! I don't think I could ever do a vlog…everyone would hear my Texas Twang and think I'm ridiculously stupid. πŸ˜‰

Soooo….I want to know where you write. Also, what is your writing schedule like. Morning? Evening? And do you have to have a drink nearby…or chocolate?

  19. Coleen Patrick

Great job Katie, I so admire your courage and look forward to the next.
I do have a question: I am curious how you manage your social media time. πŸ™‚

Nice video! I like the idea you have to make it personal. I'll have to stop by to see them! I will admit that I don't always care for vlogging, but Rachelle's videos and your's might be converting me. πŸ™‚

How fun to hear your voice again, Miss Katie! It's been a few months since conference, don't ya know?

I love the concept of vlogging. For me, I can only imagine doing it if I can think of a fun quirk for it…Maybe I'll dress up in an Amish outfit…Ha! (Can you tell I'm sleep deprived?) πŸ™‚

Anyway, I loved what you did with yours and you made it sound so natural. Hmmm, future conference speaker? πŸ™‚

  22. Kristin

I have to say one thing.
You, my dear, have amazing skin. πŸ™‚

  23. Lori Benton

This is fun, Katie. I love it when folk I've known on line for a while suddenly up and post a vlog (yeah, not so great a word) and I get to hear them as well as see them. I knew you existed. I really did know that. But you just became like SO REAL! πŸ™‚

  24. Naomi Rawlings

What a great vlog! You're so brave. I don't know that I'd have the guts for this . . . but I've loved your agents vlogs. So I understand where the inspiration comes from!

  25. Katie Ganshert

You are all so sweet! I'm so glad you're enjoying the vlog. I'm loving all these questions.

Lacie – you have NO idea how much I'd love to go to Panera and hang out with you all!

Beth – I just emailed you b/c that idea ROCKS!!

  26. Loree Huebner

    Great idea for vlogging!

  27. Keli Gwyn

Wow, Katie! That was awesome. Love seeing your smiling face. And Michelle is right. You're so poised. You did a super job!

I don't have a question for you right now, but I'll be back next week. I'm sooo eager to hear about your debut novel's title.

  28. Diane

You are completely adorable and sound like I thought you would. :O)

My vlog question would be for you to show us your writing workspace or the area where you do your writerly magic.

Hope you have a super weekend! :O)

  29. Erica Vetsch

Hey, cutie! So great to see your face and hear your voice!

counting down the days until conference…and I'm in dire need of another writing weekend getaway.

  30. Beth K. Vogt

    Oh. My. Word.
I feel like I know you a little better now … and I so wish ACFW started tomorrow.
How about a dueling vlog one day? (I mean dueling in a nice way, of course. I like you.)I'm talking completely off the top of my head here, but since both our books come out in May 2012 (and no fair that you know my book title and I don't know yours yet) why not think of a way to interview each other via vlogging …
    Are ya game?
Excuse me while I go watch your vlog again.
And I'm not a stalker either. Really.
    Really.

  31. Lacie Nezbeth

Love it Katie! Great job…so what day looks good to meet at Panera? I'm free most of next week! πŸ™‚

As for questions, I would love for you to talk about conference. Tell me about meals…do people really run for a table? Talk about workshops…is everyone there with an ipad/laptop or is paper and pen sufficient for note taking? Talk about the little stuff for me please.

  32. Michelle DeRusha@Graceful

You are so poised! And brave! You did a really great job…I'm impressed.

No question right now…need to have a cup of coffee first! πŸ™‚

  33. Eileen Astels Watson

Oh my, I love getting to know you guys via vlogs, but I'd be terrified to do one myself.

Okay, I have a question with respect to writing and publication.

Will slow and steady ever make the cut, or does writing have to be #1 priority even before publication?

  34. Jennifer K. Hale

We need to Skype. For real. πŸ™‚ I heart you, friend.

    YOU ROCK.

And what is this about a new title??????? I'm so excited!!

  35. Jaime Wright

now I feel a teensy bit better seeing you here since I won't see you at conf! πŸ™‚

  36. Janna Qualman

A great camera debut, Katie! Well done. πŸ™‚

No question at this time, but I have been wanting to tell you that an aunt of mine recently e-mailed me with some encouraging words. Included was the link to a blog she'd found and likes for its insight and honesty… That blog was yours! I was pleased to tell her I already know you, and that I agree with her assessment of your content. Big smiles!

  37. Paul Anthony Shortt

Very cool idea. Hope it goes well. I agree, it's definitely a good way to get a more casual feel to sharing information about yourself.

  38. Katie Ganshert

LOL, Krista – maybe I can go into major depth with that one. πŸ™‚ It was definitely a coincidence.

    I'm loving these questions ladies!!

And Wendy – I can't wait to see you again at the conference, woman. You are such an encourager!

Thanks for all the kinds words. I really hope to have some fun with the vlogging adventure.

I SO wanted to create a blooper reel, in which I made some pretty hilarious faces, but I couldn't get it to work! Drat.

  39. Krista Phillips

YEAH for a vlog! and YEAH for a title! EEEEEEE! SO SO SO excited for you!!!!

Question: (you don't have to answer on your vlog… cause this is a dumb one! HA!) Your vlog is 2:00 long. Coincidence, or did you have a timer????

  40. Esther

What a great start to your vlog! Super idea. For myself, I'd love to hear about your inspiration for becoming a romantic novelist – is that the genre that's always appealed to you, or did your characters demand that it became a romance? Now that you've debuted with romantic fiction, is that where you see yourself staying for a while? And what things, people or events provide you with the most inspiration for future plots and characters? (Just a few questions, then!)

  41. Wendy Paine Miller

I LOVE IT! And I'm weird that when I see these vlogs I get a little emotional, a little like, 'hey I know them, love them, think she rocks, etc.'

I guess I'm ultra relational in that way.

You did fantastic. I've been planning to get in gear and do one of these although I can't memorize for squat and I know I'll laugh somewhere in mine out of nerves.

Katie, I truly believe you are handling yourself with such professionalism, grace, and beauty on this journey and I pray that many…MANY read your work! Can't wait to hear that title.

Hmm. Now my question. Tell us about the process of storymaking…from initial brainstorm thru edits.

Love you, lady. You make me proud! And now I can't wait to hug you even more.
    ~ Wendy

Great job! I love this idea! I think you're right. It' a fun way to change it up and be more personal. Now if we could really be eating bread from Panera! πŸ™‚

vblogging allows me to feel more in touch with the person….this was great!

  44. CJ

    Great idea!

Awesome! Great job with your very first vlog! And a new title? Exciting.
