3 C’s – It’s Friday!

Cares:
In the spirit of Follow Friday, check out my friend Krista Phillip’s blog. She conducts some of the funniest interviews I’ve ever read!

I haven’t done any Christmas shopping yet. Or taken a family Christmas picture. Eek!

Concerns:
Students are sort of off the walls for Christmas and our break doesn’t start until the 22nd.

Our son’s been waking up in the middle of the night screaming bloody murder and doesn’t want to go back to sleep. He clings to me like a baby monkey. This is very unlike him. Could he be having night terrors?

Celebrations:
My story is chugging right along. I wanted to finish before January 1st and I think I’ll do it.

My family is healthy, happy, and enjoying this Christmas season.

Triple date tonight with friends. Those are always fun!

Question to Ponder: What are your cares, concerns, and celebrations on this white Friday morning?removetweetmeme

The night terrors come and go with my 4 young children, too. They have almost completely stopped with my oldest child, but the others keep us hopping some nights.

My concerns? The health of my 86 year old grandmother. She is very ill. We hope she makes it to the new year.

Celebrations? We're on a break from school for 40 days and it's been heaven sleeping in. Every day is a celebration!

Cares? Not too many except the holiday season has me running a bit more than I'd like to. I'm trying to remember less is more.

Concerns: Two of my family members are dealing with some serious health issues.

Celebrations: Christmas is getting closer. :]

    Hi Katie –

Cares – I just chucked them onto the Lord, so I'm not taking them back. πŸ™‚
    Concerns – Same deal.
Celebrations – Christmas shopping done, thankful for a healthy 2009.

I'll be praying for your little one.

    Blessings,
    Susan

Katie, congratulations on the great progress you're making on your wip.

I'm sorry to hear about your little guy's troubles and hope you figure out what's going on soon so you can help him. When our children hurt, we hurt. Hugs.

Hi Katie! We got the tree up and decorated and the kids had me running in circles baking gingerbread cookies for two days straight! Still editing over here and hoping in the Lord for representation in the new year. (Sorry for the unconventional answer) Please do tell me about Chris Tomlin. I looked him up but couldn't find anything. Thanx, have a great weekend!

My nephews and niece are staying over this weekend. So I'll be caring and celebrating time with them. My concern is that they'll be bouncing off walls πŸ™‚ Enjoy your weekend Katie!

    No cares at all!

This morning sang Christmas carols to Jesus. Such a blessed time.

Made pancakes and bacon for my boys. Well, one concern? Had to hold my nose as I hate the smell of bacon.

Thrilled in the company of two sometime sons, home for the weekend!

About to go jogging with Laura, my dog. She will snort and "smile" the whole way!!!

  8. Shannon O'Donnell

My 5-year-old daughter has suffered from night terrors off and on for several years. I feel for you and your little guy.

I'm just hoping to hang in here until Christmas vacation, and that my high school students aren't crazier next week than they were this week! πŸ˜‰

Sorry about the lack of sleep. My kids had periods of waking in the night too, but they went away fairly quickly. I hope he eases back into sleeping through the night for you!

Cares: I know WAY too many people who do not have jobs or have taken deep pay cuts. I pray the new year brings them prosperity.

Concerns: Totally let my exercise regime go. Hello, tight pants!

Celebrations: My van window was fixed the very day after it was shattered by our basketball hoop! Yay! (Driving with below-zero winds rushing in was NOT fun!)

  10. Holly

Poor Brog-ster! That must be heartbreaking to think he could be having night terrors. Hugs and kisses from his Auntie Holly!

Cares: The Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra is performing Handel's Messiah tonight at church. A lot of the preparations fall on Joel's shoulders, so I'm praying it's a huge success! I personally think it's going to be beautiful…

Concerns: It's again that time of anxious waiting that I love so much (note the sarcasm). Trying to stay sane.

Celebrations: Wednesday's blizzard and snow day!! So fun…especially for me cuz I got to stay inside and bake cookies while Joel tackled the 17 inches of snow in our driveway πŸ™‚

I hope Brogan gets a good night of sleep tonight and that it's just nightmares that will leave him alone from now on.

Cares: Yeah…I haven't wrapped any Christmas presents yet. OR finished shopping. I just seem to keep making pies and cakes for all our holiday gatherings.

Concerns: I am working on a Christmas piece for church. It's taking awhile to get where I want it to be.

Celebrations: Editing is going well…I love this story!

    Have a great weekend!

Cares: Getting my kids through the semester of school by next Friday so I can concentrate on finishing my ms.

Concerns: The eldest has a BOATLOAD of Church History lectures and lessons to get through before Friday.

Celebrations: Working on content edits for Lily and the Lawman, and they're going GREAT! Happy Me!

hey girl. sorry to hear this about brog. one way to determine if its night terrors is when it happens. usually night terrors happen within the first hour of falling asleep. you can make sure he's not overtired or eating too heavily before he goes to bed…that might help. but a person having a night terror usually doesn't know what they are doing (screaming, etc). they're still asleep, for all practical purposes. if that sounds like brog…give me a call. but it might just be he's having a nightmare stage or something like that. children are prone to wake up at the same time each night…esp if they know you're going to go in and cuddle them. (yikes!) we had to let maddy cry one night for about 15-20 minutes. she fell back asleep and the next night didn't wake up at that time. you can also try the "wake to sleep" method from baby whisperer. about an hour before brog wakes up, go in there and gently nudge him, talk softly. just enough to bring him out of the stage of sleep he's in and wake him a bit. then he'll go back to sleep and hopefully should sleep through the time he normally wakes. we did this with maddy and it WORKS. just a few suggestions from your friendly bloghood therapist. πŸ™‚

my cares are just that maddy continue to adjust to the changes that are about to come her way, namely grandmother leaving and daddy coming a few days later and then us moving after christmas to our permanent house. celebrations would be the prospect of a raise in 2 months and the fact that i'll be a board-approved supervisor in a few weeks for other interns! heck yeah! (all paid courtesy of my company, too. even better.)

    love ya!

    Hey, Katie!

I made some progress this week. I now know I won't have a roommate. I also went apartment hunting, so my mind is pretty swirly right now. So many decisions to make. Right now I'm waiting for support so I know what I can do. I'm supposed to move in a month!

I hope your son sleeps peacefully starting tonight! And have fun on the triple date! Enjoy the white Friday. Georgians barely know what snow is. :0)

Care – Christmas break is soon…it's both a concern and a celebration packed into one!

  16. Jessica

Your poor little guy. I hope it's just a phase. How old is he again? Not old enough yet to get scared by stuff in his room, right? I hope this passes for you quickly.

I need to get pics done too. Ack!

Woot about your story and your date! πŸ™‚

  17. CKHB

If it was night terrors, he wouldn't cling to you, he'd treat YOU as the enemy as well. (We've had this happen ONCE. It was horrifying.) Probably some sort of nightmare/early stages of an illness or fighting off an illness combo. Hang in there!

I have done NO holiday planning/purchasing/decorating. ACK!

  18. CJ

I haven't done any Christmas shopping. The Young One doesn't get out for Christmas break until 12/23. We're both bummed. I've got butterflies today because I'll be performing at Macy's Calligraphy Ornament Personalizing Event. Purchase an ornament from Macy's and I'll personalize it for you free. 3-7pm Providence, RI. (Shameless plug, blush.)

  19. Diane

    Poor little guy.

Triple date night sounds like a lot of fun!

Need to sell Christmas trees here. Have not broken even yet! :O)

  20. Robyn Campbell

Hey Katie! I don't know if he is having night terrors. He could be having bad dreams. Or an earache. I'll pray that whatever the problem is, it will cease.

And my concern? My son Christopher. That he be well. That home-school run smoothly and THAT I Get the agent I want. I have one in mind.

Almost done with Christmas shopping. Need to mail cards though.

Celebrations? My Savior lives!! Great post! Thanks Katie. πŸ™‚

Not an ear infection, right? Triple date nights are fun. Good for laughs.

Cares: I haven't wrapped one single present yet.
Concerns: Family stuff…ugh. (family of origin I'll add)
Celebrations: I'm being bombarded w/ two strong new story potentials…going to fb you a ? about this.

I hope you know I'm thankful for you today, Katie. Laugh a lot this weekend and I pray your sleep is multiplied.

Aw, I feel so bad for your little guy. It's unnerving when they're usually good sleepers, and then they wake up like that.

My 3 C's are all intertwined today. My family is leaving 15-degree weather this afternoon to go to the 75-degree temps of Orlando, FL. Normally I would be excited about this, but my son woke up this morning with puke in his bed and yuckiness in his diaper. We're planning to travel anyway since our tickets are nonrefundable, but it could be an interesting day. :-/

  23. Heather Sunseri

Night terrors are yucky! I hate that for you because I know what that feels like to have him cling to you like a monkey.

Care: Struggling with finding the writing time I'm craving.
Concern: Many things happening with my day-job situation that are making me extremely unhappy.
Celebration: I love the Christmas season and seeing the smiles on my children's faces. My son turn seven on the 19th and he is so excited that it is infectious.

  24. Krista Phillips

Ohhh, poor little guy! But don't feel bad, they ALL go through it. And you'll probably have another bout of it at about 3 yrs old too… just to forwarn your (or at least, all THREE of my kids went through that!)

It's so hard to take as a Momma… but I DO think they are starting to dream some and it scares them. They'll get used to it soon… and you'll go back to having a full nights sleep!

THANKS for the link to my blog:-)

    Care: I LOVE CHRISTMAS
    Concern: Patience. I need it!
Celebration: Christmas is now TWO WEEKS AWAY!!!!!!

  25. Tabitha Bird

We are moving house! AHHHHH! why did I think that was a good idea just before Christmas. We have less that two weeks to move in. OH MY!

Have a great weekend. Enjoy the date night πŸ™‚ They rock!

  26. sherrinda

I haven't bought a single gift either! Nor birthday presents for my youngest! His birthday is the 15th. So much to do….

And I feel for you with the kids at school. This time of year is so crazy. Lots of stress and it's hard for teachers to teach when the kids are so "weird" around the holidays!

    Have fun tonight!!!!

  27. Jody Hedlund

I understand the bouncing off the walls. My kids are having a hard time focusing on their work too, especially because we do a fun advent activity to start the day or during the day.

I still can't believe you've written so much so quickly!! That's awesome! And it gives me motivation to try to up my daily word count once I start my writing. Right now I'm still researching and will be for a couple more weeks.

Have a fun time on your date night!

  28. Tamika:

Poor baby! He must be having bad dreams. Praying for him and you!

Cares- I haven't bought a single present either. Sad.

Concerns- Not chugging along as well on my WIP.

Celebrations- God has been so good to me!

Thanks Katie for the info about the Genesis contest. I hope to go that direction this year.

  29. Gwen Stewart

cares, concerns and celebrations: Well, making it through the next six days of school with my students is kindof all three of those! It's a fun time of year, but they're already off the walls too…*sigh*. And my MS…let's not even go there. I'm kinda stuck, but trying to get unstuck. πŸ˜‰

    have a blessed Friday, Katie!
