The Cover Art for my Debut!

On Friday, I got an email from my editor. And guess what was attached?

The cover art for my debut novel!

I won’t lie. I got a little verklempt. Mainly because it made this entire journey feel so real. I mean, this story I’ve sweated and fretted and poured over has a face. One created by the amazingly talented cover design peeps at my publishing house. A face with Bethany and the farm and my name on the cover. This is craziness!Β

Let’s Talk: What book covers have caught your eye lately? Do you ever buy a book just because you love the cover?

  1. Absolutely gorgeous. I can’t wait to read it.

I totally buy books for the cover!!

  2. Love the cover, Katie! It is truly beautiful! It captivates me and makes me want to read the story.

  3. It is beautiful. And there’s no feeling like seeing your cover for the first time.

  4. I love the book cover! Usually the book covers are the first things that pull me into a book, unless I am familiar with the author. πŸ™‚

  5. What a beautiful cover! I confess I’m a reader who is pulled in by covers much moreso than titles.

I’ve had a lot of trouble from GFC lately. I can no longer see new followers. So if someone follows me, I need them to leave me a comment letting me know so I can follow them back. Only no one ever does! So frustrating.

    Lovely! Congratulations.

How exciting! I can’t wait for it to come out, so I can read it. πŸ™‚ The cover is beautiful; I love the coloring and the vividness of the flowers against the backdrop of an unfocused image. It looks really cool.

  13. Love, love, love that cover! Definitely one I’d pick up off a bookshelf even if I knew nothing about the author. I love the silhouette of the farm and the wildflowers peeking through snow…

  16. Love the cover!! Beautiful and completely eye-catching! Even if I didn’t know you this cover would definitely beckon to me from the shelves of Barnes and Noble. Get ready girl, I’m sure they are going to be flying off the racks!

My favorite book covers elude a full facial shot. Love the silouette and the chance to form a face in my own mind. Can’t wait to read it!

  17. Katie, I love it! It’s perfect. The colors give a perfect feel of both cold and warmth, an effect it would seem (I’m drawing conclusions from the title) you are going for.

Can’t wait to hold a copy in my hands!

Woohoo! That’s exactly the feel I was hoping for! Thanks for the feedback Linsday!

  18. Your cover is beautiful. I’d snatch it up quickly. My first reaction to a book is the cover. Then the first page has to continue the fascination.

  19. Cindy R. Wilson

Oh my gosh, Katie! That’s beautiful! I have to say, I am always drawn to covers with bold and bright colors, and flowers. Yours has it all! I’d definitely gravitate toward it in a bookstore. Congrats!

  20. I had no doubt that your new web home would be darling! Beautiful and breathtaking.

And the cover is whimsical and romantic, which I know reflects your words:)

  23. Mega congratulations, Katie! That cover is AWESOME! I love, love, love it.

It’s all beautiful, but my favorite part is your name at the bottom. =)

  24. Oh my heavens. I love that so much. Just seeing your name on there nearly stopped my heart. I am SO excited for you, K!!

  25. That’s lovely πŸ˜€ .

I believe your Google Connect feed *should* transfer, and I know your RSS feed will transfer, too. (I have one of the top guides for switching from Blogger to WordPress on another of my blogs, and I’ve provided people with tech support on the switch for four years.)

You can talk to your tech person, but if you haven’t tried it already, Google has a resource for moving your Google Connect Followers to another URL: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/friendconnect/thread?tid=66c835424a9133ab&hl=en

I’ve also helped people set up a seamless transfer for their blog feeds. You’ll want to sign up for FeedBurner if you haven’t already. (If you have, be sure to change the feed URL to your new one.) In your old Blogger (which you can block from search engines to avoid duplicate content), go to Settings > Site Feed and put in your FeedBurner feed URL.

If you’re using Blogger Custom Domain to help with the transfer, you’ll want a redirection plugin to redirect the old feed URL to the new one.

If this is all waaaay too technical, sorry. Your tech person should be able to get this working for you.

Yes, covers are amazingly important! I have often bought books just because the cover was so gorgeous. Most times they lived up to the artwork! LOL.

    Congrats!

    1. Katie Ganshert

Hi Robyn! So glad you stopped over! Could you let me know what you’re doing before you get the error code? Jason and I are trying to work out any and all kinks. Do you hit the subscribe and it doesn’t let you subscribe?

  33. I LOVE this cover!!!!! Seriously, gorgeous and the more I see it, the more it tells a story of what your book must be. I can’t WAIT for it to come up for review. Happy day, Katie!!! πŸ˜€

  38. I love the colors, but my favorite part is the name at the bottom πŸ™‚

    1. Katie Ganshert

LOL! Me too! Or maybe the flowers at the bottom.

  39. Beautiful cover!

  40. Such a wonderful cover, Katie. Love the colors and the wildflowers. I don’t think I’ve ever bought a book strictly because of the cover, but I do love an attractive cover. It does make a difference. Enjoy this moment.

  41. Looks awesome, Katie!!!

  42. What a moment! Congratulations. Thou shalt be leaping and jumping and squealing all day.

  43. Kinsey Christin

    Verklempt? Oh dear…. πŸ˜‰

    Cover looks great! I can’t wait to read it πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

  44. Oh, lovliness, Katie! I’m a sucker for contrasting colors–these blues and oranges delight my soul!

    Can’t wait to read it…

  45. Love the cover, Katie. So, so excited for you. Of course, I would read your book if the cover were a brown paper bag and the title was written in a crayon … LOL! I’m just saying!
    ;o)

    1. Katie Ganshert

Ditto for you book! Can’t wait to get my hands on that Beth!

  46. Stunning! You must be so excited! Congratulations!

  47. Love it!!! I especially love the colors! I don’t know if I buy books based on the covers, but certain ones really catch my eye. How exciting for you (and for us! I can’t wait to read it!)!

  48. Katie, It’s beautiful! I used to buy books for my bookstore based on a well-done cover– I would have bought yours:)

  49. Beautiful Katie. I’m pleased not to see the character’s face staring at me, big and front on with nothing left for my imagination to fill. Yours is the kind of cover I particularly like. Gives me a sense of mood and setting, the first clue as to what reading this book will feel like. Well done design team!

    1. Katie Ganshert

I agree Lori. I’m not a fan of the face being right there. I like to create my own hero and heroine. So I’m happy you only see the backside of Bethany.

  50. Beautiful (like its author)!

And look how BIG your name is! πŸ˜€
    ~ Wendy

  51. I LOVE IT!!! Can’t wait to hold a copy in my hands and read this story!! WOO HOO!!!!! Fasten your seat belt all over again, your ride is just starting!!

    1. Katie Ganshert

Uh-oh! It’s just starting?? Because I’ve been crazy busy already!! πŸ™‚

  52. That cover is exquisite! I love the colors, the title, the shadow of a girl with her hands in her pockets. Very reflective.

And I love that name splashed across the bottom! So excited for you.

  53. Love, love, love it!!! Now I can’t wait to get my hands on the real thing. πŸ™‚

  54. Jessica R. Patch

Full of awesome!!! I admit I’m not a big fan of people on the cover, but shadows of people I love! Every day is a step closer! Beautiful cover! One cliffhanger down. One to go!

    1. Katie Ganshert

That one is coming on Wednesday!

  55. Looking good, Katie πŸ™‚ Looks like we can get that Author Alert happening when you get the chance!

    Take care

  56. That looks fantastic!

  57. Katie, this cover is absolutely amazing!! It’s quite different seeing it in full living color than it was seeing it on that tiny little cell phone screen! I’m so excited for you. It is a BEAUTIFUL cover, and so fitting for such a beautiful story. YAY!!

And may I just applaud the use of verklempt?

    1. Hahaha, ditto, Jeannie!

      1. Katie Ganshert

verklempt is a great word, isn’t it??

        Thanks so much Jeannie-girl!
