The Week of If….

I was rummaging through my book shelf the other day and came across this fun stocking stuffer my mom got me for Christmas way back in high school. It’s called If (Questions for the Game of Life), and it’s filled with all these random “If” questions. In an attempt to take my mind off the waiting game, have some fun, and get to know my readers better, I’m going to pose one question each day this week. This is officially “If” week.

A fun spin off for my writing readers?
Answer the question for yourself first, then answer the question for your main character in your WIP.

Today’s Question:
If you were given one hour to spend an unlimited amount of money in any store in the world, where would it be?removetweetmeme

Oh, dear… decisions, decisions! I'd love to be let loose in a bookstore but I don't think I could do justice to a shopping spree in an hour. I could spend days making my choices there. So probably I'd choose Home Depot, stocking up on materials to finish our summer cabin, help with our families' home renovations and hopefully still have time to order decorative blocks to put a retaining wall in the garden. That would be one expensive shopping trip! I think my MC would love the same opportunity, but to pick up a lot of building supplies to improve a fishing resort where he works.

    Etsy.com! Handcrafted amazingness.

And, my MC probably has some stores in Japan she'd want to shop at, but I don't know what they all are. She might just go hog wild at Paper Source here in the States…

Well, Target for me! I'd get clothes, books, DVD's electronic toys, home furnishings, and food! Oh my…I'm set for life! πŸ™‚

    Love reading the answers!

Krista – free money, girl! Not your own.

I was thinking about my answer. At first I thought Best Buy, because I could buy all kinds of technology and DVDs and appliances and software. Then I thought…why not Target? I would say Walmart…but I don't like the clothes at Walmart. I do like Target's clothes. So I could get all sorts of things. That would be one fun hour, let me tell ya!

Amazon. I spend too much money there as it is. Sigh. Oh well. πŸ˜€ Fun question!

I'd go to Kohl's. They have everything there. Clothes, toys, housewares. Anything. Even books, I think! I love the "what if" game! Can't wait for tomorrow!

    Fun question, Katie!

For me, AC Moore or Michael's to feed my stamping/scrapbook addiction.

For my character, probably a place like Bed, Bath and Beyond where she could buy things for her B & B.

me – i'd have to say some store like walmart or target. perhaps a costco or sam's club. i'm a discerning book buyer….and with only one hour, it'd take too long to peruse the books to figure out which ones i want to buy. make sense? in walmart, though, i'd just go through the home, office, electronic, clothes, shoes, tires, sporting goods, toys and every other department getting things for LIFE. and of course, i'd throw in a few books. πŸ™‚

my hero would enjoy a sporting goods store, i think.

OK. Amazon is technically not a brick and mortar but that's where I would be.

My MC (14 year old Laken) Would be at a fictional store called The Factory. She drools regularly over their clothes πŸ˜‰

Me: A Kitchen store, I mean the kind that has cupboards, sinks, flooring, etc. I really want a kitchen redo!

Fiona (My heroine): Upper end department store that has clothing galore and shoes galore!!! SHe'd be in her glory!

    Maybe bloomingdales in NY

Barnes and Noble, without a doubt. πŸ™‚ Books, books, books, and more BOOKS!

For my MC…he'd probably head right to the land office and buy himself some property…a ranch. πŸ™‚

I love clothes, but I'd still have to go with Borders or Barnes and Noble.

My main character…oh boy, this is hard. I just invented her last week and we haven't gotten to spend much time together yet. She'd probably listen to your question and then ask if she could bring someone–because for her, right now, that certain someone is very important.

Probably Barnes and Noble, Books a Million, or Lifeway (family bookstores went out of business in my area). Or I'm with Wendy on Amazon. Haha–aren't we all writers (and readers) trying to support an expensive habit (reading)!

Hmm… my character right now needs wheels, so she'd probably go down to a dealership and have some fun!

Does Amazon count? Or Etsy online? If not, B&N or TJ Maxx.

For my character…also a bookstore, but also online. Hmmmmm.

TOTALLY easy. Target. I'd throw a BUTT load of clothes in there for me, hubby and kids, just raid the electronics section, home section, even the grocery section.

I'd have years worth of clothing (Yes, I'd just throw in my cart every size possible)

Can you imagine how much money over the next few years I'd save?

Now, you say unlimited, I'm assuming this is a NOT krista money I'd be spending, like a shopping spree.

If it were MY money and I was just rich, well, this answer would be totally different!

    My MC? Macy's or Nordstrom's…

  17. Tamika:

You ask this question to the shopaholic! Help me Lord!

I would have to say…Nordstrom's for me. My MC, would definitely be a store like Tuesday Morning or Hobby Lobby.

    Ooh fun Katie!

    Oh I love if questions… I think I did a post title 'IF' a while back πŸ™‚

Okay so…hmmm… my answer would be Harvey World Travel or Boarders Book Store. It's a toss up. See the world or read the world… Hmmm πŸ™‚

And since I am the MC in my memoir the answer still stands πŸ™‚

    Fun post Katie.

I would probably head over to the Family Christian Bookstore. I could get all of the books I want, CD's, DVD's. We don't go very often to the FCB because we have to drive to another larger city to visit it, but when we do go, it's a very special family occassion!

    What about you?

  21. Jessica

    Probably Barnes and Noble. LOL

I don't know about my MC. Maybe somewhere with ice cream? Or silk. Hmmm.
