Friday 3 C’s

Cares:
Trying to figure out how to simplify my existence, how to be present in the moment. I freak myself out sometimes, like when I blink and all of a sudden it’s Christmas again. Or when I pick up Brogan and his legs are dangling to my knees and all of a sudden, he’s not a baby anymore. How does that happen? I’m only 28, but before I know it, I could be 78, looking back on my life, wondering how the heck I got there.

I mean, there are a handful of things I know I won’t regret when I’m staring at the end. I won’t regret any of the time I cuddled with my son. Kissed my husband. Laughed with friends. Stepped out of my selfish little head and reached out to the least of these. Pursued my passion for the written word. Gave my all to God. These are the things that matter. These are the things I want to focus on in 2011.

Concerns:
Still no Christmas shopping. How is it that this non-procrastinating woman can become such a procrastinator when it comes to all things shopping? Shopping. Ick.

Celebrations:
A two-day week next week, followed by Christmas break!

The fish, apparently, is a fighter.

Question to Ponder: What are your cares, concerns, and celebrations?removetweetmeme

Accomplish all my goals: write more, read more, eat healthier, exercise, pray, meditate, and read my Bible more.

A member of my family is going through a hard time right now, and I really hope that things get resolved soon, and that he becomes happier.

Love reading these 3 C's ladies! Thanks for sharing a part of your lives with me every weekend.

Hey Beth – I didn't know you read my blog! How cool! Glad you find the words encouraging! I'll have to check that store out. I've never been there before. I did like a Christmas shopping binge and got it all done last night. Wrapped and everything. Whew! Now I'm off the hook until next year. I love the picture of your family, btw! How precious is that!

Your articles are such blessings! I am always inspired by your words, and encouraged by the events in your daily life—which totally mirror many of my own! My little guy is also growing up way too fast!
I can't stand busy shopping places this time of year! If you haven't gone shopping yet, you should stop at a few shops in LeClaire for any women on your list! Dwellings & Vignettes have some great items and are very reasonably priced! The popcorn store has not only popcorn but candy too for the men on your list! πŸ™‚
Once again, I LOVE your articles! I am always excited to see what you write next!

Yeah, the time is slipping away, girl.

:*( I miss reading everyone's blog, but time is just taken up so much by work and family!

Okay, I say this with a little twinge of jealousy, but a knowing in my heart that God is in complete control…you're 28 and have accomplished this much? Good job. I'm 27 and I'm still working on my frist few books. Just…wow, girl.

    cares:
Spending TOO much on Christmas! :s lol.
BTW, if you need me, call me, lol. I seem to be floating toward the shopping this year πŸ˜€ hehe

    concerns:
    work…there's just SO much!

    celebrations:
    FAMILY TIME SATURDAAAAAY!

I have to say when I was younger I loved to shop. I could win wars shopping if I had to. But now shopping is more than a chore, it involves dealing with people and lines and spontaneous purchases I never intend on making and did I mention lines? Now I make it a point to internet shop whenever possible. I find I'm more focused and don't much mind the people milling around the house nearly as much as I do those in the store. =) Have a great weekend Katie!

    Yay for Christmas break!

Cares – having a relaxed and wonderful Christmas with my family all together. Treasuring every day of this break with my girl home.

Concerns – deadlines for bookwork and books.

Celebrations – I just received the shortest Content Edit of my young career!

Cares: I agree with you about simplification. I've been working on it for about 6 months. And I need to get A LOT of baking done this week!

Concerns: I feel like I am forgetting something MAJOR and it's freaking me out.

Celebrations: Last day of school and then two weeks of freedom with my kiddos! πŸ™‚

Your 2011 goals sound wise! Spend time on what counts!

Cares: Writing project! Finally figured out what I want to work on next and I'm SUPER excited.
Concerns: Not sure, Can I skip it and double my celebrations? Yes? Good, I was going to anyway. πŸ˜‰
Celebrations: Excited about a trip, Lord willing, to visit my Mom and other family (AND MY CP WHO I HAVEN'T SEEN IN PERSON IN OVER 5 YEARS!). I haven't been at Mom's on Christmas Day in several years so I'm really thrilled.
AND tonight there's a youth party for our church campus. Getting back in youth ministry has been SOOOO awesome.

    Yay for the fish!

Cares and Concerns: Doing my part for the family Christmas–I've been really worn out.

Celebrations: All Christmas shopping is done and presents wrapped.

Hope you enjoy your week next week!

Awww, I know what you mean about time. When you're little, the future takes fooorever. And now that it's the future, it keeps coming at us at lightning speeds.

Cares: My sister-in-law's due date was yesterday. This is her third daughter, and I'm praying really hard that this baby isn't 2 weeks late like her second baby was! Poor thing πŸ™

Concerns: A package I ordered two weeks ago was missent across the state. Sigh. I'm very annoyed, and I sure hope it gets here in time for Christmas.

Celebrations: It's a week before Christmas Eve! I'm so excited!!!

  14. Keli Gwyn

Katie, I'm glad to hear the fish is still swimming. I hope you have a wonderful celebration of Christmas and survive the crowds when you do go shopping. Enjoy your vacation.

My teacher hubby gets three weeks off. I'm looking forward to time with him along with a too-brief visit from our college daughter.

Cares: FINALS FINALS FINALS. EEK EEK EEK!

Concerns: See above. πŸ˜› Also, I haven't started Christmas shopping either. I hate shopping. (And have been told that my "girl" card has been revoked because of it.)

Celebrations: Five days till finals are over. Then Christmas break = writing time!

  16. Wendy Paine Miller

    Yeah for the fish!!!

I'm with you, not a huge shopper.

Cares: 22 hour car ride straight ahead.
Concerns: car ride and that I scrape sugar off the bottom of my tea. That can't be good.
Celebrations: Seeing my mom in a few days!!!!!!!! Nothing like a mom hug!

    Merry Christmas!
    Love,
    Wendy

  17. Heather Sunseri

I'm not much on the whole shopping thing either! But I'm pretty much done, thankfully, because my kids missed three days this week b/c of ice before they were even officially out on Christmas break.

I love the things you want to focus on for 2011. Those are the things that matter, and time does go so quickly.

Winter break started for us today! Enjoy your short work week.

  19. Catherine West

Cares – I'm sick and I have a billion and one things to do. I should probably just go back to bed today. I'm supposed to be at an office lunch with hubby this afternoon. :0(
Concerns – the next few months are going to be crazy for us – son has music auditions at universities and I have a book coming out – I'm not sure how I'm going to get it all done without going a little nuts!
Celebration – my family is all together again. I do love Christmas!

  20. Sherrinda

Whew! I'm with you. This whole commercial Christmas is just for the birds. Seriously. This is not the way it is meant to be. But who will be the trendsetters to change the norm?

I'm close to getting my shopping done, only because I bought so much online this year. Yay! Tonight I have a dinner for the church staff and I haven't really prepared well. At least I have 1/2 a day to get ready!

  21. Bonnie R. Paulson

Cares: Family. I worry that my kids don't get enough, but then I think of the kids who don't have anything and I feel even worse. But I love them and they know it.

Concerns: Work. Who isn't worried about that right now?

Celebrations: The holiday season is almost over. Katie, I'm like you. I hate shopping but even more so, I hate the commercialism associated with Christmas. I wish we gave presents to Christ and that was it. Worrying about what to get people who have everything they need gets old.

Thanks so much for the 3 C's! Enjoyed it!

    Have a great day!

PS: Thanks for clearing up google thing yesterday. I know how to post and that's about it (my overposting probably proved that, right?) : )
