3 C’s – It’s Friday!

Cares:
I have a dentist appointment today. First one in four years. I know, disgusting. Hopefully this doesn’t turn into a concern.

I need to get back into school-mode and start planning for the school year, which leads us to the next category…

Concerns:
Next week is my last week of summer break. Back to school on August 10th. I’m very disturbed about this. I’m going to miss my carefree days with Brogan, going shoeless, makeup-less, and air-drying my hair. I’m going to miss being able to check blogs and write scenes during Brogan’s nap time.

This was an unproductive week in writing. I’ve been unmotivated.

Brogan’s glasses are giving me a headache. He yanks them off his head every thirty seconds.

Celebrations:
My short story, Waiting for Sunset, will be published tomorrow, in Christian Fiction Online Magazine’s August issue. This will be my first piece of published writing. I will provide a link in tomorrow’s Voice Lesson post. I hope you come back and check it out.

Question to Ponder: What are your cares, concerns, and celebrations on this unusually cool Friday morning?removetweetmeme

OMGosh! I can't wait to read your story! You're not allowed to be bummed tomorrow! Sorry about the dentist. I always take some Advil before I go, if that helps any. I had to chuckle about Brogan keeping you busy with his glasses. Do these doctors have any clue what a toddler is capable of? Sounds like an invention is in order…. no idea what it could be at the moment. πŸ˜‰

Erica – I read on FB that you finished your galley edits! wHoOT! WhOOt! Awesome blossom, girl! What are galley edits, anyway?

Weronika, my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family during this time. I read your blog about your mom. I pray that God would prove himself strong in your life right now, and give your family a peace that surpasses understanding as you help your mom through this.

Tara, I wish I could superglue them on Brogan! That would solve a lot of problems. Sorry to hear about your cousin. That's scary. And how fun about the contest!

Holly, what?!?!? I am going to call you tonight. Seriously, what?!?!

Jeannie – you forgot the other celebration. CWT and your query!! Poor Maddy. I hate mosquitos with a passion.

    Thanks Terri!

can't wait for tomorrow! yay about the publishing credits!!

care – maddy's got mosquito bites all over her…just huge, swollen spots. yikes.

concern – i just might have a chance at the job i thought i didn't have a chance at! the principal wants me! it just might work out.

celebration – i got to meet with my old BSU director from college last night. while we were meeting (first time in 4 years since i've seen him…he got to meet my daughter!) i ran into 3 people who can do some serious networking for me in the job market! AMAZING. i think i'm going to eat there every night. πŸ™‚

Boo for school starting! I can't believe you're going back already. I hurt for you πŸ™

So as I write this, I realize that I'm a 3C's Friday virgin!! Tee hee. So here goes nothin…

Cares: August has quickly filled up with lots of fun things to do and people to see. I'm not sure how we're going to survive it all, but we'll have a good time trying.

Concerns: Our neighborhood is going down the drain. To add to the litany of murders, muggings and drive-by shootings, there was just an FBI raid a couple nights ago at a house a few blocks away…sweet. As such we are going to put our house on the market soon. It's just such a pain to sell a home right now. But we don't want wait until our 'hood is so far gone that we can't even sell our place.

Celebrations: We are leaving for Lake Vermilion (my mom and step-dad's home) in only 4 days! Besides the golf-tourney/fundraiser we need to be at on Thursday, this trip will provide some much needed R&R.

Talk to you soon, Kate! Love ~H

  6. Tara

Congratulations. I'll be checking for the link. Can you super glue glasses? I'm just kidding. It's a good thing kid's glasses are durable.

Cares: I need to get two more chapters written this week.

Concerns: My cousin had a massive heart attack and my other cousin lost his job. Tough times.

Celebrations: I'm hosting my first contest on my blog.

  7. Weronika

I hope all goes well with the appointment! πŸ™‚

    Have a great weekend!

    As for myself:
CARES – I'm worried about making the appropriate amount of progress on the WiP; I just want to move forward with it.

CONCERNS – My mom's recently been diagnosed with cancer and we're hoping for the best.

CELEBRATIONS – … Oddly, I can't think of anything for this week. Hoping for better things next week.

πŸ™ about the dentist. I have to go every three stinkin' months!
    πŸ™ about Brogan's glasses.
    πŸ™ about school starting.
a big YAYAYAY πŸ˜€ about the article in the magazine.

Cares: Getting everything done that I want to get done between now and Sept.
Concerns: That I'm putting too much on my plate and setting expectations too high.
Celebrations: I got my galley proofs for my debut novel and I'm working through them. Only about 50 more pages to go!

    Have a great weekend!

Jody, no kidding about the cool summer. We've only used our air conditioner for a total of about seven days this entire summer! I hope the publisher LOVES your new proposal!

I appreciate the prayers, Eileen! Thanks!

Jessica, yep, he goes to daycare. Our provider lives two minutes from the school where I teach, so that's nice. Thanks for the congrats!

Thanks Diane. I had one cavity. Not too bad, considering how long its been. πŸ™‚ Although I might have to get a root canal….infection in the root of one of my tooth due to major mouth trauma I had six years ago. That is definitely a story for another day, though. It's a pretty gruesome tale.

Jen – CONGRATS! Two articles! that's awesome! I will definitely take some chocolate. I like dark. Do you have some? πŸ™‚

Thanks for the encouragement, Tab. I hope you like it!

Carrie, sounds like you have a very cool relationship with your daughter. What a blessing! I hope you find a job soon! Being in limbo is no fun.

Wendy! Celebration, for sure. I can't wait to read your story!! And 11 cavities? Ouch! No fun at all. I had one cavity and probably need a root canal (but this is a long story).

Kristen, what a beautiful celebration. And I'll keep you in my prayers for your concern. Those big decisions are the toughest ones to make. PRaying God gives you wisdom and peace.

Faith, I hear ya on the motivation. I've been struggling with that this week as well. So cool about the dance lessons!

Marybeth, hoping next week is loads better!

Ooo, Jill, migraines are the WORST. I hope the motrin nipped it in the bud. And I totally hear ya with the revisions. Sometimes I get dizzy with revisions….they are definitely tiring.

Hey Galen! I'm not actually a student, I'm a teacher. I teach 5th grade. So unfortuantely, it's full time and I don't get to do anything online. I wish though!

Cindy, you have writing FEVER! You're on a roll, girl. I hope your daughter feels better soon. That's no fun at all!

  10. Cindy

Congratulations on your story! Let's see…

Cares: We're working on remodeling the kitchen and it's taking forever. In the meantime we seem to be neglecting the rest of the house.

Concerns: My oldest daughter has been sick for the last five days. She seems to be getting a little better, but I still worry for her. And I really want her to feel better.

Celebrations: Finished my book over the weekend and already have another one in the works. Woo hoo!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  11. Galen Kindley--Author

Yeah, missing time with Brogan will for sure be tough. Will it be all day, every day, or just for a few hours? Are there courses you can take, online?

    Best Regards, Galen

  12. Jill Kemerer

Oh Katie, congrats on your short story! I remember when you told us the good news, and here it is, in the magazine! Amazing!

    Let's see
Cares: I'm almost finished revising my book, but it's taken me three times as long as I expected. I'm worried I will never finish. And I'm tired of revising. So tired!!

Concerns: Nothing out of the ordinary. Just getting a hint of a migraine and hoping Motrin will stop it in its tracks.

Celebration: My wonderful husband is on vacay this coming week! Woo-hoo!!

Take care and enjoy the last days of freedom!

  13. Marybeth Poppins

Can't wait to read your article.

This has been a rough week for me so I care that it doesn't happen again, I'm concerned it's not over but I'm celebrating that it might be πŸ™‚

Good luck with Brogan. I'm sure he'll get used to them soon!

  14. Faith

That's wonderful! Congratulations πŸ™‚ Can't wait to read it.

Cares: So much housework… so little motivation. Why must my home be a perpetual disaster zone?

Concern: I feel like crap. I think it may just be stress trying to eat me alive again, but I can't figure out where the stress triggers are coming from this time, so it worries me that this may be something worthy of a doctor's visit. Visiting the doctor stresses me out too. *sigh*

Celebration: A local dance studio owner mentioned that she'd love to have me teach some classes for her in the winter. Very exciting, because I just started teaching at another studio this summer and have found that I *love* it. Yay!

  15. Kristen Torres-Toro @ Write in the Way

    Hi, Katie!

I hope tomorrow is wonderful for you. It's an amazing feeling to see your name in print for the first time! Congratulations!

Concern: I really need direction/wisdom for a potentially big decision for my life.

Celebration: I have consistently seen God meet me exact where and when I needed Him this past week with exactly what I needed. It's been amazing!

    Have a great weekend!

(Sorry about the re-post. I clicked the wrong thing accidentally).

  16. Wendy @ All in a Day's Thought

Okay, your dentist apt. reminds me one year during college I went and had 12 cavaties! Nice, huh! πŸ˜€ I hope you don't have a single one.

Yeah…tomorrow–can't wait to read your story.

Cares: VBS picnic will be inside…hope we all fit.

Concerns: Some unspoken ones. God's power to shine through me.

Celebration: I have a similar one to yours I believe. πŸ˜€

Hope you have a blessed weekend!

Oh, poor you about the glasses. Will he be going to daycare? Hopefully he'll keep them on there.
Sorry to hear about the writing. We all have weeks like this. πŸ™‚ I hope you have a more productive weekend. πŸ™‚

  23. Eileen Astels Watson

Katie, I'm going to be praying for you and for little Brogan to keep those glasses on some more too.

I'm sorry to hear about school starting so soon for you. We don't go back until Sept.8th this year. Not fun!

  24. Jody Hedlund

Unusally cool summer? I think we'll probably get our summer weather in September when we're all back at school!

Wow, I can't believe you already have to be back at school in a couple of weeks! You've had such a productive summer so far, that maybe it's okay to give your brain a rest for a week or two!

My concern: Still in limbo with my proposal and publishing house. Rachelle should be sending them my updated proposal soon.
