Cares:
Krista’s daughter, Annabelle, got extubated yesterday, but then something went wrong. If you don’t know Annabelle’s story, pop on over to Krista’s blog. Her post from yesterday puts the waiting writers go through in big time perspective! I’m praying that the doctors were able to figure out why Annabelle stopped breathing and that she gets to go home with her family soon.
Concerns:
A lot of crummy stuff going around the Ganshert household this week. Little Man got sick. Then I got sick (still feeling a little off), and now hubby’s got it. Little Man still doesn’t have an appetite.
Celebrations:
I’m enjoying the main character of my new story. I don’t have the book fully plotted, but just for fun, I started writing the first chapter. Out of nowhere, I take up first person, present tense. I wrote all my previous novels in third person, past tense. The change is fun, even if I decide to switch back.
Do you ever change it up when you’re writing or do you stick with the same POV and the same verb tense from book to book?
Question to Ponder: What are your cares, concerns, and celebrations today?
Sorry to hear you've all been feeling crummy. It's hard enough to be sick when you can give in and pamper yourself, but when you're also everyone else's caregiver it's especially difficult. Hope you'll all be better soon. And I'll be praying to your friend's daughter, too. There is a little foster child in our family and her extensive health problems are a constant concern, so I know the heartache.
I usually write in third person past tense, but when I was reworking my third novel I went from third person past to first person present. It was a major effort. Then during further revision I changed it again, into first person past tense, and it finally felt right. I think the choice depends on the kind of story.
You KNOW I'm praying for that sweet little girl. I popped over and told her their names are written in my Bible.
Praying that you feel better soon. Little Man HAS to start eating. I hope he all ready has. Praying for you guys. You KNOW that.
Cares: Christopher and querying.
Concerns: Christopher and querying
Celebrations: CHRISTOPHER CAME THROUGH THE SURGERY SAFELY. AND FRIENDS LIKE YOU. THAT I KNOW, THAT I KNOW, ARE REALLY PRAYING WHEN I ASK THEM TO. It calmed me so much. Thank you girlfriend. π FEEL BETTER!
Oh yeah, I have stuck with the same POV and same verb tense SO FAR. But might switch in a future book. Just for fun and to see if I can do it.
Try and rest this weekend. It helps the body so much.
That's so cool about your new book! It's fun to be surprised. I always write third person past tense. It works for me!
I trust you are all healthy soon, and stay that way!
Yes, I change my writing from time to time, so it doesn't stagnate. And whomever I'm reading at the time influences it, I know that.
Concerns: my full-of-pain brother, and my daughter's family.
Celebrations: I have a job! I belong to Jesus! My husband takes great care of me! The sun is shining today! God overflows with goodness!!!
I've been sick all week, too. Bummer!
And just at the time when we all want to be able to get a lot done.
Life! You can't control it!
I haven't been over to Krista's blog for a while. This is a good reminder to pray for Annabelle again.
Sickness in my family always happens in a domino effect, one person, then the next. I'm so sorry you all have been sick.
I'm pretty much stuck on third-person limited. I've thought about first-person, but I don't think I'm there yet in my writing. I think it takes a more advanced writer to write in 1st.
Oh, I'm sorry about your family getting sick. There's been a bug going around here, too, and it got me last week. Ugh.
I almost always use third person past tense. All the times I've tried first person, I usually end up switching back to third person. It's comfortable to me for now but one day, maybe π
I saw your comment on Rachelle Gardner's post today and came over to see if I'd like to follow you. The answer: yes. How wonderful you're represented by RG. I look forward to reading your book. I love The Preacher's Bride.
As for me: I'm an "older" writer about to have a memoir published by a small press, and I'm caregiver to a disabled daughter. I have three other grown children, so I've been where you and these other younger mothers have been with sick children! A most important job, being a mother, and not easy!!
Ann Best, A Long Journey Home
I write all my novels first person present tense and I can't seem to steer away from it. =)
I'm praying for Krista's daughter! The Lord is in charge so I already feel better.
My three C's?
Care; I'm having a huge party tomorrow.
Concern; will my house pass the white glove test from my aunt's (probably not) will everything run smoothly? Will I ever figure out how to use those industrial size coffee maker's I bought? Will the chocolate fountain run smoothly? (Please Lord).
Celebration; I get to be be lazy and sleep in all next week. =)
Sorry to hear everyone has been so sick. We had that same bug pass through our house about a month ago. First Griffin, then me. Not pretty. I hope it doesn't make a return visit anytime soon.
I hope everyone starts feeling better and that Brogan gets his appetite back. It took us a few days before we were back to 100%.
Have a happy and HEALTHY weekend.
Katie, I'm sorry your family has been battling the bug. I know Little Man had it as well as your hubby, but somehow I missed that it bit you, too. I hope you're all restored to full health soon.
My heart goes out to Krista!
I love switching it up with POV and I've found first person to be my fav. I've tried it past and present. Like both. You know me, I'll try just about anything.

You know I wrote that out and I realized the answer what God's doing in my life probably answers all three. π

Poor kids…yours and the little one who stopped breathing. I hate seeing sick young'uns!
Hope you feel better.
I was wondering about the POV thing myself a while back. I write one POV throughout a whole book. Would it be a no-no if I, say, in the third book, went to two POVs? Or will my readers be expecting the same methods from me all the time?
Oh, Katie, I'm so sorry. I hate those bugs that affect everyone, one-at-a-time. Poor little man! Hope he gets his appetite back. Wish I could give him mine.
Care: Family member who isn't doing well.
Concern: Just getting the stuff of the season done.
Celebration: Completed BIG edits on MS. Took me a lot longer than I expected.
There is a terrible stomach bug going around here in Texas! Kids in school are puking all over the campus! Poor custodian. π
My daughter and I are going to Houston this weekend to see some friends. Never gone on a trip without my husband. STrange, huh? I'm a little nervous.
Sorry you had such a bummer of a sick week! The stomach flu is always the worst!
I'm in the researching/plotting phase of my novel and LOVE this phase. I love reading those stale, yellowed books and discovering fun facts and interesting characters from history.
My concern is having enough time (as usual!) for all of the researching. Life seems busier this year, perhaps it's because my kids are getting older and their activities are more intense.
Have a great weekend, Katie!
Hope you're all feeling better soon. Sick kids and hubbies are the pits.
