Ten years ago, I was navigating a stressful adoption process and facing down a manuscript deadline that just wasn’t cooperating. Writing—this thing I had always loved—was starting to feel like work. Hard, draining work.

So I decided to let myself play. I started something just for fun.

No contracts. No expectations. Just a story I couldn’t stop thinking about …

A girl who sees things no one else can see.
She thinks she’s going crazy.
Until she meets a boy who—she swears—can see them too.

I never planned to publish it. But I fell in love with the characters, the twists, the romance, the world. Indie publishing had taken off by then, so I decided to take a chance and hit publish.

I had no idea that The Gifting would become the book (and series) readers love the most.

Now, a decade later—with over 4,300 reviews and an average 4.5-star rating—I still hear from people discovering the story for the first time. And it never stops making me smile.
