Without further ado, let’s hightail it to Peaks and talk to my two leading ladies about Christmas music.
First, I asked Bethany, the main character of Wildflowers from Winter, to tell me about her favorite Christmas song:
Without a doubt, Little Drummer Boy. It’s beautiful. All of it–the melody, the instruments, the lyrics. If I close my eyes, I can hear Grandpa Dan singing it down the hall in the shower. As a little girl, I always felt so sorry for that little boy, with nothing to give the King but some taps on his drum. Something about those words pinched my heart. As an adult, they still do.
I asked Robin, the main character of Wishing on Willows, the same thing:
Oooo, that’s a hard one. There are so many great ones! As a kid, Mom and I always used to dance and sing to Up on the Rooftop. It was one of the first songs she taught me on the piano. And then in high school, we used to dance and sing to All I Want for Christmas is You. But now, as an adult…
I guess if I had to choose, it would probably be O Holy Night. “A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices…” And then when that chorus rises and we belt out, “Fall on your knees! Hear the angel voices!” I can’t sing it without getting choked up. To think of this Jesus we celebrate–the Light of the World, coming to earth as a helpless infant, all for love. It truly is incomprehensible.
To be entered in today’s giveaway, all you have to do is tell us about your favorite Christmas song!

Oops. It’s O Holy Night.

I grew up listening to my parents’ Christmas albums, and I especially loved the ones by the now late Andy Williams. One of my favorites is a very beautiful (but not well known) song called “Some Children See Him” – the lyrics are about how children of all races envision baby Jesus’ face to look just like theirs. And of course, Andy Williams sang a wonderful version of “Do You Hear What I Hear.”
I always have a hard time picking a favorite anything… However, I really love “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas.” I don’t know why, but it always brings a smile to my face! My favorite Christian song would probably be “Mary Did You Know.” Thank you for the giveaway!
I’m doing the same thing on my blog! Lots of good books to giveaway. I love Christmas carols, but my favorite has to be O Holy Night. With the right voice singing it, it’s magnificent. I also love White Christmas. Nothing like Bing singing it.
One of my favorite scriptures to pause and reflect on as a mother is where it says “But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.” I really want to know what she was thinking! And that’s where my favorite Christmas song comes in, Mary Did You Know? Followed closely by O Holy Night.
Love almost all the Christmas songs but probably Away in a Manger is my favorite.
Growing up on a farm my Mom would sing “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” and Silver Bells”. I also like “O Holy Nigh. I would have to go with “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” as my first choice.
“Silent Night”
My favorite when I was young was ‘Silver Bell’s because it was the first Christmas song I learned to play on the piano. Now, I remember my Mom singing ‘O Holy Night’ as a solo at church, and I loved that song. But, White Christmas still brings tears to my eyes.
Like so many others I love O Holy Night. It is just so worshipful.
My favorite is One Small Child, I heard it on the radio years ago and it had such a beautiful melody and the lyrics were haunting in places. My favorite traditional carol is O Come All Ye Faithful.
I love the traditional Christmas carols. My favorite is Angels We Have Heard on High. The chorus is glorious.
Definitely “Mary, Did You Know?”
I love “Oh Holy Night”. I think that is my favorite Christmas carol,
My favorite Christmas song is “O BEAUTIFUL STAR of BETHLEHEM”. That song makes my heart just overflow with happiness.
I must say my favorite Christmas song would be ‘White Christmas’…..
My favorite Christmas song is “O Holy Night” followed by “Mary did You Know”.
I didn’t realize how hard this would be as so many send shivers through me. However, I really love Carol of the Bells.
Wow, thanks for the giveaway Katie! How fun to learn about your characters and their favorite Christmas music π
Mine is Silent Night. There is something so holy and precious about that song that always warms my heart π
Merry Christmas!
One of my favorites is “Mary Did You Know?”….I often wonder how she felt as Mother to the Messiah…
Definitely O Holy Night. Beautiful song!
“Silent Night” by candlelight on Christmas eve … there’s something almost otherworldly about it, and seeing the awe on the kids’ faces is wonderful.
At the moment, hearing my five-year-old son randomly burst into a line from ‘Away in a Manger’ as he travels through his day is pretty special, too.
I LOVE “O Holy Night,” but one that has been gripping me lately is “O Come, O Come Emmanuel.” ThePianoGuys has a terrific, beautiful version up on YouTube. Chills. Chills.
Breath of Heaven.Lighten my darkness pour over me your holiness for you are holy.Breath of Heaven hold me together be forever near me breath of Heaven. A beautiful song one of my favorites.
My favorite Christmas song is O holy Night — I especially like the version by my fav singer John Berry.
How Many Kings by Downhere
It just humbles me, awes me, uplifts & just speaks to my soul…that God did this for the least of them….ME!
O Holy Night. Amy Grant/MW SMith’s Emmanuel
Carol of the Bells, and Breath of Heaven…and..and…cannot pick just one!!
My favorite Christmas song is O Holy Night. This song seems to catch the awe & wonder of the night my Savior came to earth.
O Holy Night
I have so many favorite songs…but the one that brings back the most memories is when we were stationed in Germany in the 60’s. I was so homesick…having never really been away from my family at Christmas…and I’d hear the song “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” and the tears would flow down my cheeks. I still get a whimsical feeling when I hear it.
My favorite is “O Holy Night” (but also love Bing singing “White Christmas”) π
“Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” by Judy Garland. So hauntingly beautiful!
I am currently loving “Breath of Heaven”. I think it is so beautiful and expresses what Mary might have been feeling and how many of us feel when we think of Christ’s coming to earth.
I absolutely love the Bing Crosby/David Bowie version of the Little Drummer Boy. Also, I love the way Elvis sings any Christmas tune!
My favorite song is Little Drummer Boy, as a child it was so soothing to me. At times I believe it drew me towards the Lord in my life. Come they told me

I guess I am a traditionalist…I really like Silent Night. We always sing it at church during a candlelight service, and it really touches me with the true meaning of Christmas.
Oh wow! I love talking Christmas songs! Oh Holy Night and Angels we have heard on high (one on Christmas in divercity album is quite nice) would be my very favorites. And then (not in any particular order)Mary’s boy child, Christmastime(M.W Smith), First noel, Come on Christmas (Matthew West), White Christmas and Oh come all ye faithful. I’ll stop there for now. I’m a totally Christmas person!

Sweet prizes. Sweet answers from your characters!
I adore O Holy Night. And, well, I love all the classics sung by Bing Crosby. π
Last Christmas by Wham
There are so many Christmas songs and I’m not sure that I can choose a favorite. I think my top three Christmas Songs are “Silent Night”, “Jingle Bell Rock and “Pretty Paper”.
I love the song Do You Hear What I Hear? I just think it’s a beautiful song.

I think my favorite Christmas song is “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas”. We always play Christmas music when we decorate our Christmas tree and I just love it when this song plays.
Ok, probably to maintain my position as “elder’s wife” I should pick something a little more reverent, but my favorite song is “Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer”. It makes me laugh, which is joy, which in turn reminds me of the fruits of the Spirit, which eventually brings us back to the birth of Christ. LOL
O Holy Night has always been my favorite. I love Christmas carols sung traditionally without all the vocal gymnastics added in. I prefer a good strong male voice singing that song. It’s such a beautiful song both in melody and lyrics. A close second would probably be Once Upon A Christmas as sung by Selah.
Favorite Christmas song: Oh wow … I just froze.
So many. Christmas music is one of my favorite parts of the season. I love “Silent Night” — a traditional version of it — but I also love Nat King Cole’s “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire …” (what is the title of that song, anyway?) and “Mary, Did You Know?”
i like the christmas classics…o holy night is my favourite song…but my favourite christmas cds are amy grant’s…all of them π
I think mine would have to be I Wonder as I Wander… Although I agree with Robin! O Holy Night is a close second! π
I actually have two favorites, Mary did you know by Mark Lowery and Do you have room for Jesus by Carroll Roberson? Blessings & Merry Christmas, Susan Fryman susanngarrylee@yahoo.com
I can’t say that I have a favorite, except
that I love the hymns. They bring a peace to me that starts from within.

Ooo, there are so many wonderful Christmas songs! But my favorite would have to be Silent Night and We Three Kings. I’ve liked those two songs especially since I was a kid. The melody and lyrics are just so beautiful and put me in the Christmas spirit whenever I hear those songs!
My favorite song is Oh Holy Night…the beautiful ‘Fall on your knees’ gets me every time…as long as it’s sung by someone who really means it.
Me too, Rachel! That is my favorite song and my favorite part. It brings me to tears.
Me too! There’s just something about this song that got the very first time I heard it!
