Christmas Movies

Today’s Giveaway Includes:

All to keep for yourself or give away as gifts to people you love!

Now let’s head to Peaks and see what Christmas movies my two leading ladies enjoy.

First, I asked Bethany, the main character of Wildflowers from Winter, to tell me about her favorite Christmas movie:

I can’t help it. The Christmas Story. That movie slays me. My brother and I used to watch it on VHS the entire week leading up until Christmas Eve. One year I even asked my dad for a Red Ryder BB gun. He laughed, but I was completely serious. And then in 1997, David and I discovered TNT was airing an entire Christmas Story marathon. I think we watched it five times in a row that first year.

I asked Robin, the main character of Wishing on Willows, the same thing:

Bethany has tried to open my eyes to the merit of The Christmas Story, but I’m just not there yet. The leg lamp? Ralphy and his mashed potatoes? I don’t get it.

Choosing a favorite movie is almost as challenging as picking a favorite song. If you read about my childhood tradition, you should know that I’ve watched almost every Christmas movie ever made. With that said, I’d probably have to go with A Christmas Carol–the old, black and white version. That’s my dad’s favorite. He always loved when me or Mom would choose that one to watch on Christmas night. The ghosts are a little freaky, but something about the way Ebenezer Scrooge changes at the end always gets to me.

To be entered in today’s giveaway, all you have to do is tell us about your favorite!

You will have until nine p.m. on Thursday to leave a comment. At which time, all names will be written on a scrap of paper and my husband will draw the winner. The winner will be announced on Friday.

To be entered to win the grand prize giveaway, you have to answer every “What Does Christmas Mean to You?” question. (Check out the first, second, and third.) To see the complete list of items included in the grand prize, please click on the link. The winner will be drawn tomorrow!

Let’s Talk: What’s your favorite Christmas movie?

I was very excited and honored to learn that Wildflowers from Winter made LifeWay fiction book buyer, Rachel McRae’s Favorite Novels of 2012! If you’d like to sample the story, you can read the first three chapters.Β

  1. Favorite movie is probably Charlie Brown’s Christmas. Oh, but I love “It’s a Wonderful Life.” “Elf” is a staple in our household, it seems to be the one movie our family can agree on and we watch it all year long. πŸ™‚

My favorites are, The Charlie Brown Christmas, White Christmas, Miracle On 34th Street (Natalie Wood version), Holiday Affair with Robert Mitchum, and Donovan’s Reef which is not a typical Christmas movie but the holiday plays a rather large role.

I don’t know if I’m to late, but wanted to share my favorite Christmas movie with you. I have a stack of about 10 of them. I think my very favorite is ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’. I don’t know that ‘The Bells of St. Mary’s’
is a Christmas movie, but I watch it every Christmas. It lifts my soul to watch it. Thank you for your posts.

  8. My favorite Christmas movie? Ohh, “It’s A Wonderful Life”….You mean, there are others? LOL

  9. I own so many Christmas movies and watch them all at least once a year in December! But my very favorite is the original cartoon How the Grinch Stole Christmas, with Boris Karloff as the narrator and voice of the Grinch. That movie fills me head to toe with Christmas spirit. I love it!!

  11. Allison Jones

my favorite Christmas movie is ‘The Christmas List’ with Mimi Rogers. I taped it from tv onto a VHS tape years ago, and we re-watch it every year – including the old out-dated commercials!

  12. I would say “It’s a Wonderful Life” because I think we can all relate to feeling like our lives are a failure at some point–but it gives us hope that we may not see how important the actions we took are–and how important we are as we are used by God!

Mine is definitely Its a Wonderful Life; I just love the heartwarming message and the happy ending. πŸ™‚ But I do have a special place for Charlie Brown Christmas! πŸ™‚

I agree with Bethany, The Christmas Story is such fun to watch, and I never get tired of it. My husband and I can quote just about every scene by heart. The Polar Express is a close second, and is especially wonderful to view at an IMAX theater.

  15. I love the old heartwarming kid’s Christmas shows like the Grinch, Charlie Brown Christmas, and Rudolph (although not exactly Christian based:)). The longer standby’s, such as The Christmas Story, Miracle on 34th Street, and It’s a Wonderful Life are wonderful, too. Actually, just give me just about any warm and fuzzy Christmas show and I’m in.

Excited for the giveaway. Thanks, Katie and Merry Christmas to you and your family!

I just love the movie Christmas With The Kranks with Jamie Lee Curtis and Tim Allen.

I would have to say my favorite Christmas movie is Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase.

  19. Hands down “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Not only is it my favorite Christmas movie, but one of my favorite movies ever. πŸ™‚

And hey, congrats on being on the LifeWay list. That’s awesome–and well-deserved. πŸ™‚

  20. Favorite Christmas movie: Miracle on 34th Street, the old version–although the newer is also fun to watch!
And for the grand-prize question, what does Christmas mean to me??? One word: Hope. That in the midst of all this darkness, light can still come. Even so, come Lord Jesus.

My favorite THIS year is Christmas with a Capital C. It’s a really cute little movie. But, I love Christmas with the Kranks. I just love a good comedy, and Tim Allen and Jamie Lee Curtis are great in it. I’ve been a Christmas movie junkie this season since we have Netflix!

  22. Rebecca Maney

I would have to say my favorite Christmas movie is “It’s a Wonderful Life”. “Polar Express” and “The Shop Around the Corner” come in a close second. LOVE your choice or prize books – some of my very favorites!!!!!

  23. Susan Fryman

My favorite is It’s a Wonderful Life. Such a great and tender story. Blessings & Merry Christmas, Susan

  24. The Bishop’s Wife with Cary Grant

  25. I love The Nativity Story. I know there’s been criticism on some aspects, but it really made me see and experience the Christmas story in a new way.

  26. Oh, Elf – I love that movie! My family and I watched it the other night. πŸ™‚ My dad and my sister are skeptical, but my mom and I laughed a lot, LOL!

My favorite Christmas movie, though, is The Polar Express. I love how deep it is in simple ways – how every time I watch it the symbolism and the mystery of it enchants me. πŸ™‚ It’s such a beautiful story about belief!

If anyone is interested, I wrote a blog post about it back in 2011. There are spoilers and it’s kind of a long post, but here it is:

Just thought I’d share how much I love the movie! πŸ™‚
