Friday Favorite: An Adoption Map

adoption mapI think most of you know that we’re in the crazy process of adopting from DR Congo.

It’s hard enough for me to wrap my mind around everything, let alone my four-year old son.

Let’s just say, he’s not getting a brother or sister the “normal” way. He can’t see Mommy’s tummy growing. The whole idea of his sibling being on a continent called Africa far far away is not an easy thing for his young brain to wrap around. And the waiting. Oh, the waiting.

So when I saw this Adoption Map idea posted by Cheryl Troxel, another mama adopting from DR Congo, I fell in love.

Brogan and I made one of our own on Monday.

He already explained to his Grandma Gayle and Papa Kirby that when he puts the heart in the middle, that means Mommy and Daddy are on their way home with his little brother or sister.

We can’t wait to add more pieces to the puzzle!

What’s your Friday favorite of the week?

El Roi

names of godMy good friend Melissa and I have been meditating upon a particular name of God each month.

Last month, we prayed a lot to Jehovah Jireh – the Lord who provides.

And boy, did that name ever turn into something meaningful.

This month, we’re praying to El Roi – the God who Sees Me.

Not just this far-away, all-powerful God who’s up there in heaven. But a personal, intimate God who sees every piece that is me. My past. My present. My future. My fears and dreams and failures and victories.

I love that this is one of God’s names.

Let’s Talk: Which one of God’s names has been particularly poignant for you these days?

5 Symptoms of Internet ADHD

pc tabletIf you have experienced any of the following symptoms, there is a good chance you are suffering from Internet ADHD and should seek professional help….

  • You get online for a very specific purpose but all of a sudden you’re inserting your face onto a virtual body that’s dancing Gangnam style and you have no idea how you got here.
  • You check email, then Twitter, then email, then Facebook, then email, then Pinterest, then email, then Twitter….all in the span of five minutes.
  • You log onto a photo stock website to find a picture for tomorrow’s blog post, see a picture of a bow and arrow, which makes you think of Katniss from The Hunger Games, which makes you look up the release date for Catching Fire on imdb, which leads you to a trailer, which reminds you how excited you are for Divergent to be made into a movie, which leads you to Veronica Roth’s blog, and then your husband tells you it’s time for dinner, so you go downstairs and the next morning, your blog post goes live….without a picture.
  • Your husband has thrown away the brand new artificial Christmas tree because you were on the computer when he asked if he was tossing the right one.
  • Your family knows that when you say, “I’ll be off in two minutes” they have time to watch a movie or a football game. Or maybe both.

Seriously, am I the only one?
